ScrapArt in the Spotlight - July 10th

Hi everyone!  It was so hard to pick out only one layout this week to spotlight.  The gallery is overflowing with so much talent.  Our creative team did finally pick one layout that stood out, and it was this layout by JAnderson that grabbed our attention this week.  Her use of Laurie's kit was so beautiful.

Hybrid Tin Challenge

Hello everyone, we loved seen the gorgeous projects for our envelope album challenge. Are you ready for another challenge?

This month’s challenge is to create a hybrid album/card/project and use a tin to keep it. Round tins, square tins, any kind. You can buy them from your favourite scrapbooking store or recycle one from home. Chips tin, mint tins, tea tins, they are everywhere (I would avoid the sardine ones though LOL). This is a packed Tuesday with lots of yummy goodness from our designers so I'll get down to them right away!

Mojo Monday - Scrap something Funny

Happy Monday fellow scrappers! Just want to let you know that for the months of July and August, our Mojo Monday challenges will occur every two weeks. We know that for many of us, we are well into the summer season which means more time spent with the family outside the home. This, of course, cuts down on our scrapping time. So, we’d like to give you 2 weeks, instead of the usual 1 week to play along the SA challenges.

Now, for this first Mojo Monday challenge of July, I challenge you to scrap something funny. With a house filled with 4 kids, there seems an endless supply of funny moments in our lives.

For this particular challenge, I chose to scrap this anecdote in my DD’s life. She kept saying "green" when she wanted the fruit, "orange". LOL.

Lea chose to scrap her little funny boy.

C’mon, scrap along with me and document the funnies in your life. You could scrap a favorite joke. Or an embarrassing moment. Anything that makes you laugh!

Real Name:   Aja Abney (my name is pronounced like "Asia", from the Steely Dan album of the same name)

Could you tell us a little about your life? where you live? who with? what you like doing in your spare time?    I'm happily married to my high school sweetheart and am blessed to stay home with my three little ones.  I spent lots of time homeschooling, hanging out with my family and friends and of course, designing!  I also love to read. 

When Did You Start Digital Designing? Where do you get your inspiration?   I made a few things when I first started scrapping almost three years ago, but I didn't really get into it until I got accepted to the team here at Scrapartist in January.

What is your favourite kit you have designed?   Tree Forts & Tire Swings

12. Are you a working girl or a SAHM? I do work. I'm account manager on a financial office.
13. Are you drawn to patterned paper or solid paper? I like the both, depends of the LO.
14. What is your favorite element you use over and over? It may be 2? LOL ... Alphas and Ribbons
15. What was the best digi tip you ever learned? A tip about shadows for sure.
16. Share something unique about yourself? Hmmm... One of my dreams is to be mom and make soooooo much scrapages for my baby.

4. My favorite season of the year is: Autumn in Ontario - I absolutely love the changing colours of the leaves and row after row of gorgeous orange pumpkins!
5. My dream dinner and a movie would be: My dream dinner would definitely be at a traditional Japanese restaurant IN Japan! Dream movie? Anything with Orlando Bloom (teehee).
6. My favorite snack food is: I recently discovered these rice and pecan crackers (if I didn't stop myself, I could quite literally each the whole box in one sitting lol)!
7. My other hobbies: Traveling, writing and reading.
8. My favorite time to scrap is: In the middle of the night while everyone in my household is settled or sleeping.
9. My software is: Photoshop
10. My style is: I love extractions and blends and lots of whimsey.
11. My scrap place is in: I use a desktop computer in my basement (it's the most quiet and peaceful spot in my house lol)
12. Are you a working girl or a SAHM? Both - I have a graduate degree in Social Work and continue to work a day (sometimes two) a week in that field. I'm also a designer at Oscraps. Both positions give me a lot of flexibility so I can spend most of my time with my daughter.
13. Are you drawn to patterned paper or solid paper? Patterned paper, definitely!
14. What is your favorite element you use over and over? Brushes - I like to add my own brushwork to photos or papers.
15. What was the best digi tip you ever learned? SAVE often (I've learned this one the hard way, lol)
16. Share something unique about yourself? I'm a big fan of Shel Siverstein's poems!

This was my attempt at minimalism - like how the photo and wings look like they are tattooed onto the page.

I like this layout because it really captures how beautiful Scotland is and my daughter's expression was priceless.
