Guest Goddess Scraplift

Happy Halloween everyone! Before we finally say goodbye to the month of October, let me show you some delightful treats in the form of scraplifts of our fabulous Guest Goddess Gabi aka Garynka.

First, the ScrapArtist Creative Goddesses lifted some of Gabi’s layouts.

Here is Jennifer’s Nature layout.

She lifted Gabi’s Nature is always beautiful.

Next, we have Emilie and her page entitled “Love”

She found inspiration from Gabi’s Little feet layout.

Each month we have a guest goddess, we open up the gallery to scraplifts of their work for a chance to win a coupon to the store. We had some absolutely beautiful pages done this month which you can view in the special guest creative goddess scraplift gallery. (Was that a mouthful or what?)  This month’s scraplift winner is dypecek! Congratulations!!! Her page entitled “My darling” is just that – darling and adorable.

She found inspiration from an equally darling and adorable page by Gabi of her 1 year old daughter.

It’s been such a pleasure having Gabi as our Guest Creative Goddess this month – so much that she’s now a permanent Creative Goddess! Welcome to the team Gabi!

Feature Friday - last week in October!

Apologies again for the short entry here on the other side of October - my OTHER "baby" is turning 17! This week's feature comes from the Scrap Artist herself, Nancie. I've chosen to spotlight her gorgeous Shmootzy Alpha 3 - Ornate Blocks.

I picked these for the simple fact that they're just a great addition to any page, and something a little bit different from the run-of-the-mill alphas out there. Tip Thursday - the eyedropper tool

Here's a tip on how to quickly get the Eyedropper tool any time you're painting in Photoshop.

Any time you're using a paint tool (Brush, Airbrush, Pencil, Eraser, Paint bucket, etc.) and you want to sample a color from an image, just hold down the Alt key (Mac: Option key) and the paint tool temporarily switches to the Eyedropper tool.

You're not limited to sample a color from the document you're working on. You can sample a color from all areas of your screen (not just within Photoshop). Just click and hold within the document first, and then drag outside of that window and onto the object you'd like to sample.

The Digital Brew

For this month's Brew, I thought I would share something I've done for a long time, not even realizing it was something people do on purpose LOL!  Photowalking!  I just love to go to work a little early and wander around downtown Tucson, taking pictures of people, places, things - whatever catches my eye! (The photo above is a result of one of those walks) I do it in my neighborhood, at a nearby mall, at the University, at plant nurseries, wherever I think there might be something cool to catch!  You get to know your camera a lot better and you get some really cool shots - things you might not even notice if you weren't walking around with the intention of taking some photos!  So, it's not only great for your photography skills, it's great for your soul too - really helps you slow down and "smell the roses" as it were :)  Recently, I discovered that I'm not alone in this habit - in fact there's lots of sites out there dedicated to it!  Here's some a couple of links to get you started and inspire you:

Feature Friday - Plum Yum!

Tip Thursday - getting rid of dark circles

If you are anything like me, you take a lot of photos in bad indoor lighting, thus needing to use a flash. So I use an external flash which is usually pointet upwards as to have the light bounce back off the roof. Well, sometimes this makes for some bad shadows, or extra dark circles under the eyes, if you will. So here's a tip on how to quickly get rid of them (or other miscolorations for that matter) in Photoshop. Here's what you can do:

Select the Clone Tool
Up on the menu bar, change the setting of the Clone Tool to Mode: Lighten, Opacity 20,
and make sure Sample All Layers is checked (this is so you can do the corrections on a separate layer).
Make a new layer above your photo layer.
With the Clone Tool, sample a lighter area (by holding down the Alt key/Option key and clicking) close to where you'll be correcting.

Now you can easily brush over the dark circles and watch them disappear.
Lastly, I would suggest lowering the opacity of the adjusted layer to make it look a little more natural, you know, not too polished. :)
