Twofer Tuesday!

Altered/Collage Challenge

Hi ladies,

Denise here, with my first Altered/Collage challenge for you!

This weeks challenge is to use a Book or Journal in your collage. You can use a book open, closed, alter it, make a shrine, go vintage, the sky is the limit.

I've included some links from mixed media artist Nina Bagley and more info in the forums.

Here's my sample: Vintage Journal.

Have fun & I look forward to seeing your creations!

Heritage Challenge

Hello All!

Erika (AKA dancingscrapper) here for another week of Two-Fer Tuesday – this week I am bringing you the Heritage challenge and our fabulous DeniseD will present the Altered/Collage challenge.

This week I am calling the Heritage Challenge “Architectural Ancestors”. Why? Well, I thought it would be fun to frame a heritage photo using some sort of architectural structure. In my layout below you’ll see that I chose a house but you can also use a door, window, gate, etc. In fact if you haven’t already, check out SA’s own Laurie Ann – her “Iron Works” kits are so much fun! So that’s the challenge – pretty simple, ha?  As always, heritage here at Scrap Artist is considered 1970’s or earlier.

Here is my sample layout:

Also, keep your eyes peeled for this week's edition of "Genealogy 101" which will be posted in the heritage challenge forum shortly.

I look forward to seeing your beautiful works of art! Have fun!

Heritage and Altered/Collage Challenges

Hi All,

Erika (AKA Dancing Scrapper) here once again for another Two-Fer Tuesday.  In honor and celebration of Scrap Artist's third year we are doing heritage layouts featuring three generations. It can be any three consecutive generations 1970's or earlier. Click here for more challenge details.

I chose my great grandmother, 2nd great grandmother and 3rd great grandmother in this sample layout:

This week's altered/collage challenge was inspired by a beautiful hybrid card my big sister, Christine (AKA Fiddlette) made recently. It is a card with a collage of brushes that was done so well, I thought she had actually done the chalking by hand.

So, the challenge is to do a layout featuring a collage of brushes - any of your choice. It can be all digital or hybrid. You can view more details of the challenge here.

Here is Christine's beautiful card to inspire you:

I hope you'll play with us this week. I look forward to seeing your works of art.

Have fun!

Heritage and Altered/Collage Challenges

Howdy All,

Erika here with another couple of challenges for ya for Two-Fer Tuesday.

Those of you that have browsed my gallery must have figured out by now that I am a big time animal lover.  Well, for this week's Heritage Challenge I thought we should pay tribute to our furry friends that came before us because after all, pets are people too, right? Let's see a layout with a photo of one of your Ancestral Pets. It can be any family pet at all: a horse, cow, pig, bird, dog, cat, reptile...well, you get the picture.  You can see more about the challenge here.

In my sample layout below I used the fabulous collab kit "Flight of Fancy" with our very special May Guest Designer Goddess...well, I can't tell ya that yet, it's a surprise but I guarantee you will LOVE this beautiful kit. Keep an eye out for it in the shoppe on May 1st.

For this week's Altered/Collage Challenge we are having fun with lots of layers. But there is a catch to this one...you must pick an element type - i.e. butterflies, fairies, hearts, stars, flowers, etc. and hide as many as you can in your layout. This is a great exercise for paying close attention to the details.  You can view more about the challenge called "Hidden Elements" here.

I chose to hide 3 little Fairies in my layout. Can you find them?

I hope you'll play with us this week.  I look forward to seeing your beautiful artwork!

Have fun!

Heritage and Altered Collage Challenges

Hello All!

Erika here for another Two-Fer Tuesday.  This week I bring to you a couple of fun challenges.  First off, this week's Altered/Collage challenge called "Altered Landscapes". I have two sample layouts to share with you this week; the "Reagan Farm" layout is one I did a couple of weeks ago that was so much fun, I just had to do a second one. As you'll see they are quite different from one another but both have altered landscapes (i.e. colorized trees and sky, added shrubbery, animals, etc) so the sky is the limit on this one to get as creative as you want.

For this week’s heritage challenge, I'd like to see your family trees.

I chose to do my tree in chart form with photos and names but don't be afraid to get creative in how you connect your tree from generation to generation and feel free to include more information (i.e. dates, anecdotes, etc.)

If you click here you can read more about the challenge.

I can't wait to see your inspiring works of art :)

Heritage and Altered/Collage Challenges

Happy Tuesday, All! (or should I say, happy tax day? LOL)

Erika (AKA dancingscrapper) here once again for another Two-Fer Tuesday.  I got to thinking that we probably all need a little digi-scrap therapy after the stress of tax time so..drop those last minute taxes in the mailbox and get your scanner ready because it's time to show off your adorable baby photos in this week's Altered/Collage challenge called "Baby Days".

Here is my sample layout:

Babydaysweb

Speaking of youth, I have chosen the theme of this week's Heritage challenge to be "School Days".  I picked a group photo circa 1917 with my grandpa and his older brother but you can do a layout of any ancestral school photo (i.e. group or single portrait) 1970's or earlier.  I love this picture in particular because my grandpa looks like such a little grumpy boy in the picture and it makes me wonder what he was thinking at the time or what might have happened that day to make him look so grumpy LOL

Here is my sample layout:

I hope you'll join me in the fun this week!  I would LOVE to see you all in your baby days and of course your beautiful school days heritage layouts too!

Have fun!

Altered/Collage and Heritage Challenges

Hi Everyone!

Erika (AKA dancingscrapper) here bringing you yet another Two-Fer Tuesday challenge.  Please take a moment and read this definition:

FUNKY:

a. Characterized by originality and modishness; unconventional

b. Outlandishly vulgar or eccentric in a humorous or tongue-in-cheek manner; campy

Have you guessed what this week’s altered/collage challenge is?  That’s right, we are getting funkified!  It’s a no holds barred funkarama!  The only rule to this challenge is that there are no rules but to have fun!  Click here for more details:

Here is my sample layout:

I have always loved group heritage photos, especially the ones that were not professionally taken because they seem much more spontaneous and in “the olden days” it was most likely a very special occasion if a group photo was taken.  If there is no date or information on the photo, I have always liked imagining what the occasion might have been.  This week I’d like to see your group photos!  The challenge is to do a layout with a photo of any group of three people or more and include some journaling regarding the occasion for your ancestral gathering. Come on over into the forum to veiw more details of the challenge

I hope you'll join us in the fun this week!  I look forward to seeing your fabulous art!

Heritage and Altered/Collage Challenges

Howdy Everyone!

Erika (AKA dancingscrapper) here for another Two-Fer Tuesday!  Wow!  I can't believe March Madness is over, it flew by so quickly didn't it?  But what a fun month it was here thanks to all of you who participated and shared your beautiful artwork with us!

I have a couple of fun challenges this week.  "Ancestral Heroes" is the subject of the Heritage Challenge. Life was very different back in "the olden days" when our ancestors lived. Every time I think my life is hard or stressful, I look at the trials that plagued, my 2nd great grandmother, for instance. People died years ago from the common cold or flu, families lost everything in the great depression and small children had to sacrifice an education to go to work to help put food on the table for their families. These kinds of things were probably common at that time but to me, I look at these people as heroes and their stories inspire me. I guess the ‘ol adage, “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” comes to mind. So my challenge to you is to tell us all about your ancestral hero by scrapping a layout which pays tribute to them.

Here is my sample layout

For the Altered/Collage challenge this week let's celebrate our most important friendships! The challenge is very simple and fun; to create an altered/collage featuring photos and journaling of/about your dearest friend.

Heritage and Altered/Collage Challenges

Howdy All!

Erika (AKA dancingscrapper) here sitting in once again for Robyn and Christine's Two-Fer Tuesday!  I have a couple of fun challanges for you all this week.

What's in a name? I have always found the origin of different surnames to be so interesting. So I thought that would be the perfect theme for this week’s Heritage challenge; a layout featuring one or more of the surnames in your ancestry. If you haven't already, this is your chance to do a little homework/detective work and dig into your family history!  I guarantee you'll have fun and may just find something interesting and surprising about the orgin of your surname!

If you click here, you can learn more about the challenge.  For my sample layout I chose my maternal surname "Reagan":

Whatsinanameweb

Since I am still kinda the new kid on the block around here, I wanted to get to know you all a little better.  For this week's altered/collage challenge let's do just that; a collage of YOU through the years. As you'll see in my sample layout, I included photos of myself though the years and even chose to include all the different looks (however hideous they were) that I had just to give you all a good laugh! LOL But you can go with whatever theme inspires you (i.e. photos of you and your best memories or moments in your life, milestones, etc)

You can learn more about this challenge here

I can't wait to see your collages!

As a reminder, each of these challenges counts as one point toward your March Madness contest points.

I hope you'll join us in the fun this week!  I can't wait to see your beautiful layouts!

Two-Fer Tuesday Challenges

I have a confession to make…over this last weekend, which is normally my most valuable scrapping time; I racked my brain for some inspiration and came up with nothing.  Yes, that’s right, you heard me… I LOST MY MOJO!  It doesn’t happen to me often but when it does, I have to just close out the ‘ol Photoshop and go on the hunt for my muse.  How do I do this you might ask?  Through the usual channels I guess; first I hit the Scrap Artist galleries and scroll through some of my scrap idol’s artwork.  Then I mosey over to my plethora of Somerset Studios’ Magazines and peruse them page-by-page.  If my muse is still on vacation, I take my dog for a walk to get some fresh air (as fresh as it can be in Los Angeles County), I play some opera music, maybe do a little ballet to release some tension, look through my favorite Baroque art book…well you get the idea.

In case you haven’t already guessed, this week’s Altered/Collage challenge is to create a layout of all things that inspire YOU as AN ARTIST.  This was a super fun layout to do and I think you will have fun with it too so come on into the forum and read more about the challenge

Here is my sample layout:

Inspirationalteredchallenge

Have you ever sat down and really talked to a senior citizen?  Growing up, most of my contemporaries didn’t pay much attention to their grandparents or anyone considerably senior to them.  I have always found that the seniors of our society have the most interesting and colorful stories to tell.  I would rather have listened to my grandpa’s stories of growing up during the great depression in Oklahoma City than watch my favorite television show or go out on the town with my friends.  There is so much to be learned from people who lived at a very different time in history than us.  So, that is the theme of this week’s heritage challenge, “Ancestral Pearls of Wisdom”.

This is my sample layout of my grandfather who once said, “The More I know of people, the more I like a good dog”.  Pretty wise, ha?

Come into the forum and read some more details

Don't forget that these challenges count as one point each toward your March Madness challenge contest.  I hope you'll play with us this week!

Have fun!
